Yearning
Allison Walters Luther
The storm raged its last breath
In the night
Leaving the world muffled
In the fuzzy light shimmering
Through the light blue curtains
With hopeful white daisies
No sound from outside
No wind
No birdsong
No humanity
Everything muted
As if reality has
Fallen out of existence
The air has a heaviness
Of light, not weight
Both winsome and strong
As so often happens
In the silence of snow
When every creature
Holds its breath
In awe
The warmth of the bed clings
With its light blue comforter
And hopeful white daisies
Like an extra skin over
The lovers
Fingers trailing as
They wish
Swept up in the sound
Of two hearts beating
With the promise
Of a new day
