Casey Woods – Last Tear

Last Tear
Casey Woods

I walk through a slim hall filled with darkness.
The darkness consumes all around me.
I see the dim light ahead,
And start to feel helpless and afraid.
Stepping forward, a little at a time,
I can’t walk anymore, I can’t feel anymore.
Numbness to the world around me
My heart Beats fast, my feet Slow.
I stop in the still and quiet darkness.
My mind blanks out, remembering our promise.
My tears fall, knowing this will not end in Pretend.
I truly feel broken when sadness grips my heart;
I can’t move, frozen in place,
My brain telling me, “Keep up the pace.”
A shock of fear races through me
Not being able to see clearly.
I feel a push from behind. Not knowing what I would find.
As I pushed the door open, I almost dropped.
A bright light appears
Blinding me before I see my greatest fear.
I see my mom on the bed.
Remembering what the doctor said,
Appearing weak, pale and broken but with a smile on her face.
Remembering where all our happiness took place, as a tear rolled down my
face.
I can’t stop the feeling of FEAR griping me.
Embracing my mom while she sheds her last tear
AS I felt her last breath, she slips away
I start to think “Will I be, okay?”
Left alone in this world so tiny and small
Walking Down the Same Dark, Slim Hall.
