Daring Light
Rae Greenwood
Hues of pink pierce the night sky
As dawn awakens and greets the day
I stand by the window, coffee in hand
And watch the twilight break through
My eyes take in the dance of soft colors
And out of the corner of my eye
I spy a little star, still shining brightly
As if wanting to play with the morning sun
Doesn’t the star know that it’s time for bed
The bold sun’s light will consume it
Chasing it back to its brothers and sisters
Who have already fled with the night
But this little star dares laugh at the sun
And dances through the shades of pink
For it wants to show the world
That its small light matters too
