Trojan Cat
Dorothy J
One time this little cat followed me home
And I mean she came right up to me, gave my hand one sniff before recieving my scritches
Got into the elevator with me and sat waiting for our floor
Looked around as I opened my door
Walked in and inspected the furniture approvingly
I read somewhere you aren’t actually supposed to give them milk
So I gave her some of the rice and beans from my supper with a raw egg cracked in (in this
economy!)
And after she ate she came and sat with me on the sofa
And I only put her out because I had a man coming over
And he wasn’t really a cat person
And I didn’t really get to see him that often, he was so busy
And she stayed neatly loafed on my doormat
Til he stumbled over her on his way in
“What, you want to become a cat mum now?”
And then she walked away
I still scan the neighborhood for that little cat
If I see her again I’ll tell her I broke up with him
But I haven’t changed the doormat that still says Hello
