Sky Talk
Eva Allison
I want to make a pact with the clouds. I am done having
planes smack through me and birds
gnawing, spitting, spinning through my small threads of veins.
Let’s agree on the fact that we both exist and disappear at the
speed of whispers, and that’s unhealthy. Let’s agree that we both want to
be more than loose, more than half-lit dreams,
we find ourselves soaked in the nighttime and wondering if our
shape will stay till morning.
I want to thank the clouds for showing me there’s still
things in this world that can move slowly.
I jump out of my body and leave her behind
Too thick the stench of fear, like molasses and hot sun
and she melts into the bed, quietly.
I can’t leave her behind.
As much as I fight it me and her are one and will
always be two halves of the same sky,
heaving and rising again.
I want to thank the clouds for showing there’s still
room to expand.
That your corners don’t have to be your corners forever.
I lay in the grass and feel the clouds tickle my peripheral, but
I’m not watching.
