Jason Atkins-Lawson – Worn

Worn
Jason Atkins-Lawson

I’m worn.
like a favorite shirt
play in the dirt
coffee stains
no one complains
rolled up sleeves
clean up the leaves
ruffled collar
found a dog, named it Dollar
faded color
it’s not my favorite
but someone’s favorite
maybe my wife’s
OJ glass placed perfectly next to the knife
sunny side up eggs
coats hung up on pegs
kids off to school
daydreaming nostalgic fool
that’s how life would be
it would have been a sight to see
if my son had been born.
