Jim Tilley – Crossing the Road

Crossing the Road
Jim Tilley

I never imagined being a squirrel,
color not an issue—gray, brown, red,
or black one and the same. It’s not about
nuts per se, at least not collecting them
to store against tough times (yet perhaps
it should be), but about the perils
of crossing the road and the indecisions
regarding whether to go on or turn back,
the wrong choice likely fatal. No need
these days for me to specify what roads
or who’s driving the vehicles because
you know that as well as I do, but you
may wonder about the desire to get to
the other side. As if that would be better.
